| Aging
of the face and neck can be improved by means of a surgery called rhytidectomy
or rhytidoplasty, which is the removal of wrinkles. In this operation,
incisions are made in the scalp, and in front and back of the ears.
The skin is undermined, the facial muscles are corrected, the skin is redraped and excess is removed. The scars are mainly hidden by the hair and by their placement behind the ears. Generally, the scar in front of the ears vanishes with time. The correction of the eyelids is known in medical terms as blepharoplasty and consists in removal of excess skin and fat, and redraping of the skin. The scars involved with this operation are virtually invisible shortly after the surgery. These
interventions, as all surgical procedures, must be carried out by qualified
plastic surgeons.
